Hey everybody, welcome back. It's an impromptu live, and we're going to be doing more of these coming up. Over the next few weeks and months, I've decided it. We're doing more lives, and that will mean more podcasts as well. So, today's little half hour episode is going to be about eBay's change from GSP to EIS. I've got some breaking news. Breaking news in addition to the video I put out last week. And everyone needs to know about it. Everyone who's shipped internationally, whether you do it via eBay or you do it on your own, you need to know about it. Let's roll the intro and I'll be back in a sec. I'm Carboot Chris, full-time reseller. Buying style stuff, flip it online for a profit. That's what I do to make a living. And yeah, we're going to do some very, very relaxed lives. I keep saying that I want to see more people do lives during the day, especially when you're working, it's nice to have a live to sort of listen along to or watch along to while you're listening and stuff like that. But you know what? Might as well do it myself if no one else is bothering. There are other people doing it, but I thought I'd do some more. I think the channel needs to evolve a little bit, maybe maybe look a little bit differently into the future. And we're going to start by doing more live shows. And a lot of these lives are going to be published over on Spotify, Amazon, Alexa, Apple Music, and all that as well. Might as well make use of it. We already put our Monday night podcasts on there, so I might as well put the put any lives that are useful as well over on there too. So anyway, welcome. Do say hello in the chat. There's a few people joined us, and I can see a few people in the chat. We've got Leanne, Kevin, Speedfoot, Richard, Helen. Appreciate your being here. And we can chat about anything, by the way. Anything you like. Just put it in. If you've got a question about reselling or any other questions at all, put them in the chat. It's a very, very relaxed reseller chat just for half an hour or so. That's how long we'll be here for. And yeah, hopefully it keeps you company. But I do have some breaking news about the GSP stuff, the changes. But we'll get to that in a minute. I'm gonna make you wait a little bit longer. Keep you keep you going for a bit. Uh Mary Theresa popped in. Oh, that reminds me, Mary Theresa Allen. I need to probably think about bubble wrap again. Actually, no, I've still got a whole roll, at least one roll. But yeah, Mary Theresa Allen have a code basically for shop packaging and gives you a discount on bubble wrap. I usually get three rolls of 100 metres time, it's like 35 quid or something like that, which is pretty good. And at least you're guaranteed it's 100 metres. But anyway, yeah. Oh, Lisa's popped in with a comment. Lisa said this new eBay international shipping are gonna take up to December to put everyone on it. Yeah, I believe so. I'm starting in August and then moving all the way through to the end of the year. I just want to be on it as soon as possible. eBay, if you're listening, put me on it first, I'll have it. Anything that's gonna get me more sales, and I do believe it's gonna be much better than GSP. Everything they've said on paper about it is pointing towards it being an absolute no-brainer. And I have some updated news from them. I contacted eBay yesterday and they've clarified a few points for me about this new eBay international shipping, and it's very, very interesting. That's all I'm gonna say for a minute. We'll come back to it in a second. Uh, flipping L's popped in, welcome to you. Uh, if you're listening on Spotify or anything like that, Apple Music, then please feel free to hit the download or come and join us over on YouTube at some point. Why is there so much glare on my glasses? It's so annoying for me just watching it, it must be annoying for you guys. I'm sorry about that. If I have to go like this, I have to put my head down, and then you don't get any glare. Is there something you can get for your glasses to stop that? Because it is proper, proper annoying. You can literally see the whole screen here. I don't think there's anything I can do, is there? It's just the the curse of the glasses wearing. Maritherese Allen, we knocked GSP on the head a couple of months ago and opted out of EIS the minute that email came through. Why? You need to expand. Why did you knock it on the head? Opt out of EIS. I'm not sure why why you would, but I'm sure you got your reasons. Anti-reflection glass uh lenses. Oh god, that sounds expensive. These have got like something in it for night driving. Do you think that's making it worse? Or what? I don't know. You know, to stop the glare on on car headlights and stuff. It might be making it worse. Maybe there's something in that. Maybe I should try my other glasses because I've got another pair of glasses, it might be better than these. Yeah, let us know Maritu re reselling. Why you would opt out of both. I mean, I could I could maybe partly understand GSP, but wait until you t I tell you about EIS, what I've found out yesterday. You might want to think about it again. I don't know, depends on your reasons for opting out, I guess. Everyone operates differently. That's what we have to understand, isn't it? Some some people some people's business just works differently to everyone else's, so that's absolutely fine. We're all different, aren't we? And roses popped in. Lisa said I don't understand. eBay cover you and flip a lease in. And Lisa said, so do I. If it's December, I will lose out. Why will you lose out if it's December, Lisa? Let us know. Married to reselling, a false return reason on a GSP order. Can't be asked with international anymore. We only have 50 listings on core now. Yeah, you're doing a lot on live, aren't you? That's great. Well, wait until you wait, Married to Reselling, until I give you this little piece of information, which is coming up shortly. If any of you guys do international shipping, you might have watched my video I put out about a week ago about this change from eBay's GSP, Global Shipping Program, into eBay's international shipping, which has been over in the US. Actually, someone commented and said the US have been using this new system for almost four years. And I had to look that up because I couldn't quite believe that they've been using it for that long. And they have. I think it was 2022, 2023, and they started switching over to EIS. And that that's a fair old chunk of time. But I guess the good thing about that is that they've had a really good amount of time to perfect the system and iron out any problems. So it's they're obviously happy with it, and they're thinking let's roll it out elsewhere, including the UK. So yeah, so I made this video. It's basically a bit of a no-brainer to just stick with GSP and then let it switch to EIS, which it will do automatically if you're already on GSP. If you don't want to be a part of it, you just opt out. You can opt out in your settings, and there's going to be more countries, you covered more on returns. eBay will manage all your returns for international, so you don't have to worry about that anymore because that was a big headache when you had a return to deal with, you had to sort out shipping and all sorts, which is a nightmare for international stuff. And yeah, they covered that. The only thing is, when there's a return on EIS, you will never get that return come back to you. You will get you will get to keep the money, but the item will never come back to you as well, because basically they are going to ship it to local local companies that are basically going to liquidate that stock. Liquidation companies and sell it off, I guess, to people like us. You know, there'll probably be liquidation companies in the UK that are going to start selling GSP EIS returns coming from the UK. You know what I mean? So you'll never ever get the item back. But that doesn't really matter because you're going to get to keep the money. And I guess as well, it kind of makes sense from eBay's point of view because if you think about it, if they're covering you, what's the point in paying for them for the item to go all the way back to the UK or wherever it originates from? What's the point? You know, it's just wasted money. At the end of the day, the seller gets to keep their money, the buyer gets a refund. Why bother sending it back to the country of origin? Just ship it to some company who'll take it, probably give them some money for it. They'll probably get a bit of money back by you know doing some deal, mass liquidation deal on this basis. And you know, where's the sense in spending a lot of money having items sent back to country of origin, I guess? So I suppose from that point of view, it's a pretty sensible move from eBay, really. Here we go. Maritherese Allen said, I can swallow it when a customer lies in the UK, but we're not paying $20 to have someone send it back, send back a switcheroo. Yeah, I totally get that. I totally get it. It's happened a couple of times to me. I I won't say it's happened often, but it hasn't. But when it does happen, it's very frustrating. You feel like you've been scammed, don't you? When you send international and you get an item not as described, or a switcheroo, it is it is absolutely a scam. But wait until I tell you what's coming up. Stick around. Uh we're gonna be on for half an hour, we'll get into it in a minute. I just wanted to let as many people come in as possible. I don't know how many's in here. 41 people so far. Yeah, it would be interesting that, wouldn't it? Would it is it gonna apply to all return reasons? It would be interesting to know that, wouldn't it? Hmm, I wonder. So, yeah, if you want to go back and have a look at the GSP video that I made. It's doing very, very well, lots of views on it, which is good. And it was an interesting one to make. Lots of points to be made, and basically a bit of a no-brainer to carry on with EIS, unless, of course, you're really, really frustrated with international. Okay, let's get into it then. Let's get into it. You're all sat there waiting, very little chat, so I'm guessing you just want to know what I'm talking about. So here we go. I I contacted eBay, eBay Customer Services. Let me just bring up the messages so that I've got the wording correct. I can't I contacted eBay via the eBay UK Instagram page, which I always find is very, very good response level on there. So I messaged them following my video that I'd made last week because there was a couple of outstanding questions that really didn't weren't covered in their FAQ on eBay. So I messaged them and I said, I've been reading up on the transition from GSP to EIS. It looks good. I made a video on it, I sent them my link to the video. They probably saw it anyway, because I know that there are a couple of employees in in eBay who do watch the videos. And I've put one question though. How are item not as describes dealt with? So INADS for short. It's currently a nightmare when this happens with a GSP order. So with GSP orders, if you have item not not as described and you want to do a full-on re-return with it, you've got to organize for an international return. So you've got to figure out the shipping, you've got to send them a label for them to use locally, and then they've got to ship it back and all that business. It is a nightmare. Most of the time, I have to admit, I think I've had two items not as described on GSP, which is not many really, but in both cases, I think, depending on the value of the item, I think I ended up just refunding them, or possibly on one of them, I did a quite a big partial refund and allowed them to keep the item because the headache is big, it's big, and by the time you've paid for their shipping to come back, you've almost lost all your profit depending on the value of the item. So I did get a reply from eBay, and I also I will back this up. I spoke with Rob, aka Krillin, who lives in New York, in the New York area, and I asked him the same question because they're already on EIS, and he gave me the same pretty much answer as eBay. So they replied and said, Hey Chris, thanks for reaching out to us. It's an exciting change as EIS would work slightly different to GSP with returns. eBay manages all return claims on your behalf. You keep your payout regardless of the buyer's reason for returning, regardless of the buyer's reason for returning. The buyer returns the item to our third-party service rather than the seller, and eBay handles everything. So I just wanted to get this absolutely right. So I said, okay, thanks. So if a buyer claims the item not as described, eBay are covering us for this completely. Is there any time we will not be covered for a return by EIS? And the return the reply was yes, eBay is covering for all returns. The only time a seller wouldn't be covered is if we cannot verify that the item was delivered to their hub. That's the same as GSP. Once it's confirmed at our hub, you've done your part, eBay handles the rest. Thank you, Amy. So the only time, the only circumstance I have it in writing that you are not covered is if the item never arrives at the UK hub. And that's exactly the same for GSP. They will cover every single return eventuality. That's what they're saying. That's what they're saying. Item not as described was the what the example that I used. So I guess item not as described was all would also come under the same bracket as someone accusing you of it being counterfeit. That's my understanding. They made it clear on that message all eventualities. The only I specifically said when will we not be covered? The only time a seller would not be covered is if they cannot verify the item ever arrived at the hub. That's it. So I said thanks, Amy, that's a big improvement. And they said I agree. Certainly looking forward to this change, it will make a big difference to our sellers. And I just said one final question: any plans for EIS to cover the varying packaging acts that are popping up all over Europe. So basically, you got the German Packaging Act, the French Packaging Act, the Belorussian Packaging Act, the Italian Packaging Act, you got all these packaging acts that you're supposed to get, you know, registration numbers for, but most people don't. And most people's opinions are that GSP or international shipping, as whatever it's going to be, should cover us for it. However, a bit of a negative on this one for now was the update is there's no update on that yet. But I'm sure as the program rolls out, we'll be looking at implementing something to assist with these acts. So you still, in theory, should sort out your own packaging act stuff for the European ones, even though the majority of us small sellers do not. I only have the German packaging act registration, which costs about £10 a year. The rest I'm not I'm not doing. But there's no confirmation of that. But I wasn't expecting it really, to be honest with you. I wasn't expecting that they were going to cover it. But the great news, as far as I can see, is that every eventuality in a return request we are covered. It's in writing, and if they go back on that, they'll have carboot Chris's wrath to deal with. Let's go back to the chat. We're done with promoted listings, offers, item specifics, TRS, algorithms, coupons, promos, feedback, and all the rest of it. If we have to go back to core, then that'll change, but not at the minute. Yeah, you've been doing really great on live. I I do say well done, guys, well done. Long may it continue. Let's see what else we got. Kevin says, assume then they will inspect the item before it goes out worldwide to prevent issues like wrong item sent or counterfeit, etc. Don't know. I'm I'm not convinced. I'm not convinced that they will inspect stuff. They don't inspect now unless you send something that is via their authentication scheme. They're not going to authenticate stuff unless it's because they're not qualified to authenticate, unless you know something is of a suitable value and somebody pays for it to go through the authentication scheme. So I very much doubt that that will be the case. At the end of the day, I guess it's it's if we've if we've got something listed for sale, then we list it for sale for everyone to buy around the world, including UK buyers. So it just so happens that someone from the USA buys it, then we're you know, it's the same expectation that we list a correct item, that we list it uh with the correct description, that it's not counterfeit, you know, and all that business. So as far as I'm concerned, I don't think they'll do any of that. They may repackage it. They always said they always claimed that sometimes they repackage things via GSP. I'm not convinced they really did. Every time anyone's ever contacted me from a GSP order in regards to packaging, it's always been my original packaging, so I'm not convinced they do that. But maybe that'll change with more responsibility that they have. But I certainly don't think they'll be counter counterfeit checking stuff, authenticating effectively. I don't think they're qualified for that. Lisa said, uh, but what if the customer makes false claims we should be covered? But I don't think the customers should get their money back if it's a false claim. But who's who decides if something is a false claim, Lisa? What I can say is I can see international orders. being abused more. I think that once people get wind that they can get away with stuff a bit more, how much evidence eBay are gonna ask buyers for before they accept a return internationally, I don't know. I guess it's not us it's not for us to worry about, I suppose. At the end of the day, if we sell something for 20 quid we send it international and it's gone, in theory we should never hear about it again. We should not really worry about it. If someone wants to try and pull a scam on eBay, then it's up to eBay to try and decide whether it's a scam or not and it's on them at the end of the day, innit? And no, that's a lot of the end of the days. But that's kind of how I feel about it. It's the same when sometimes when a transaction goes wrong or someone tries to scam you in the UK I suppose in it because sometimes eBay will refund them and let us keep our money don't they? Well that's up to them at the end of the day in it there it is again. That is the I did see a program once that said at the end of the day is the most used phrase in the you know in that kind of terminology sayings in the UK. Jamie Jamie says maybe I'm fortunate as I deal almost exclusively in a niche and never bother with promoted listings, offers coupons, promos in fact I work pretty much as I did a decade ago in that regard. That's good Jamie yeah that's good that you can I only promote now a very small percentage as you probably know two and a half percent but I don't promote for the first 30 days and after three months when I sell similar uh promoted listings gets turned off again and it starts its cycle again and it doesn't get promoted for again for another 30 days so there's a large chunk of my items that are not promoted at any one time probably I think it's one third. So I think I've got if I've got 1800 items around 600 items at any one time are not promoted at all and I don't use c I don't use I don't use those co-funded coupons either they're a load of nonsense aren't they maritari selling packaging acts that was my next question plus the US country of origin requirement another reason we just switched it all off and able to just forget about it. Yeah the the the country of origin thing still exists doesn't it sometimes I get prompts to kind of fill in a couple but eBay do say that their system will automatically fill that in if it thinks that it's got the right country of origin. I don't know how that works in practice but the packaging acts still exist hopefully the global shipping or the EIS will at some point help us out with that those packaging acts the swimming bear it's good news in terms of returns it's a thing that stopped me including GSP on my higher value or rarer items due to item not as described in the past yeah well according to eBay now you don't need to worry about that Jamie says the concern is that packaging act and any future updates with that would lead to a fairly major increase in fees yet another additional fee. Yeah I'm not I'm not too stressed about the packaging acts right now I only subscribe to the German one which is about £10 a year in theory I could probably just knock that on the head and I'd still be fine I'm not I'm not getting involved in the other packaging acts it's just a minefield so just watch this space at the moment I think with those just my opinion anyway Marissa welcome to you pretty much the same as simple delivery for private sellers eBay covers the returns now it seems and lets you keep your money for the majority of issues that's good. Don't know much about simple delivery because I'm a business seller but I know my missus has it on her account because she's a private seller Richard says I don't think they'll inspect anything not the time or manpower to go through the thousands of items absolutely yeah I just don't see that happening at all and I think in 99% of the cases they don't repackage either I think I reckon my own like personal opinion is unless the box arrives smashed to bits or a bag's ripped they don't touch it they just slap a new label on it and on it goes that's it they're dealing with way too many parcels to be doing that I think you're right there. But I do reckon if if a box comes in and it's been crushed I think it would be sensible before they send it internationally to actually repackage it other than that I very much doubt they'd do anything. What fee is going to come out to make some money back for covering this well if at the moment they're actually taking off the international fee this the very small percentage was it was it 0.48% or 0.45% it was very small but when it changes there will be no fee but you know what eBay are like they'll probably increase our fees somewhere else Jamie says Chris apologies if you're gonna mention this today but uh what's the situation with sellers who send abroad using your normal Royal Mail stamps still going you can do what you like Jamie if you want to carry on sending stuff yourself using Royal Mail or whatever you can still do it but honestly now that I know that I am not as described and basically all return options are covered by eBay I and also they're claiming that their prices are going to go down for international postage which will make it more appealing I don't really see why you would do that honestly and I think you were talking about you got loads of stamps or you get them at a good price or something like that I can't remember I don't really see why you would carry on with that tracking though is an issue with that isn't it if you're just using stamps if I were you Jamie I would seriously consider just moving across and and don't don't bother doing it yourself anymore swimming bear with false INADs and then with this new system buyers aren't incentivized as they don't get to keep the item that's that's true yeah that's that's a fair point unless of course eBay were to make a decision that you know like ad hoc decision that oh you can keep it and we'll give you a refund. You know a bit like sort of a partial refund type thing potentially maybe they'll that they'll have a team dealing with it and you know it'll be a case by case basis perhaps but yeah that that is true they might not get to keep stuff yeah we'll we'll see about that but yeah that's a really good point swimming bear really good point that Jules says I haven't been charged for any promoted listings for the last two weeks is there a glitch or is it just me? Oh it depends how you have your settings set up there Jules we're gonna be done in a minute guys I only wanted to be on for 30 minutes I probably dragged out the first 10 a bit too long didn't I could have done this a bit earlier but um just wanted to do a pop-up live we're gonna be doing doing more pop-up lives in future Richard said they just work on percentage will be refunded they make enough to negate any losses yeah you're right there I bet the number you know we think about it oh you know they get seller keeps the money buyer keeps the money on whatever you know the numbers we are dealing with here it's millions isn't it so parcels here and there that need to be refunded is small isn't it fixing all sorts welcome Peter Richard said I had a switcheroo during the week kept the money eBay refunded the buyer yeah but that was just domestic uh Maritari Silent you think this will encourage more shady sellers to send a box of sand instead of a PS5 good question maybe who knows who knows I don't know at the end of the day I guess I don't really care what other people do I will operate my business and it the thing it there it is the end of the day again the thing is right if you're gonna operate your business like that you're not gonna be in business for long are you and if eBay get a sniff that you've that you've done something wrong that's your account gone in it so yeah maybe there's one or two shady sellers out there who will pull a a fast one there always isn't there but all we can do is run our businesses correctly and who cares what everyone else does as long as I'm running my business right I'm not bothered about anyone else thank you hit the thumbs up indeed and we're gonna finish in a second appreciate the answer on Romail stamps my return rate is very marginal so happy for now to stick to handwritten envelopes and stamps as you say I get discounted stamps and make money on that ah I see yeah well it kind of makes sense doesn't it you know but if your discounted stamps somehow run out I think you'll be okay on the other system very helpful to get the info some good news that is yes at the end of the day we've enjoyed the live I'm so sorry sometimes right you get a phrase in your head and then you just keep saying it by accident yeah you just keep saying it by accident anyway guys listen I just thought we'd do an impromptu carboot Chris live that's what it's called now CBC Live Monday nights are not changing at the moment but Monday nights are Monday nights we just do our normal podcast stuff come and join us on that before we finish I've put a link in the description below and there's a link in the in the chat a pinned link now you know that I deal with listing monster I use listing monster we've been sponsored by Listed Monster in the past I use listing monster every day to list they've pulled together this reseller handbook for UK sellers like us guys and girls and they've asked me if I want to circulate these to whoever wants them it's free it's actually got an RRP of $2499 on the back but don't know whether you'll actually ever sell it for that but there's some really really interesting information in this even if you just take a snippet and think oh that'll be useful for my business then that's worth it it's a free it's a free book there's even a little quote from me in here somewhere carboot Chris full time reseller and youtuber specializing in reseller life hacks life hacks treasure hunting tips and the unfiltered reality of reselling for a living there is a quote in here from me somewhere even if you just download it for that but yeah obviously listing monsters trying to put themselves about a bit they're developing their product into more things coming soon and they've given this free guide if anyone wants it you can download it there's a link right at the top pinned there's a link in the description if you want to just have a read of it you know if it's not relevant for you no problem if it is great you've you've learnt something or you've taken something from it but a quote from Chris at the end of the day great live well it was only half an hour but it at least it was useful but yeah feel free download it have a read if it's no good for you it's no good it's free it's free hang on a minute I haven't got that media asset have I I've not got the free one damn it damn it anyway guys we're done if you don't want to miss a future carboot Chris Live or CBC Live then please hit the subscribe button and you'll get a notification when it comes through and don't forget you can join our membership it's $2.99 a month we we have our own Discord group we chit chatting there we talk reselling we talk non-reselling and yeah come and join us there if you like hit the join button below on the video and if you're listening on Spotify Apple Music hit the download and we'll see you next time thank you everybody we're gonna do another impromptu live very very soon who knows when it'll be
